Miki appears to admire Tomohiro’s persistence when it comes to his goals, sincerely complimenting him a few times though he believes she’s just messing with him at first. The two get along most of the time but can easily be provoked into butting heads on a few occasions. Miki Kawai: Miki is Tomohiro’s classmate who becomes his friend by proxy of Satoshi and Shōya. Tomohiro even gives Satoshi a nickname like he did for Shōya when they first became friends. After spending more time around each other and going through their own personal growth, both boys appear to become good friends towards the end of the series. However, Tomohiro is initially jealous of Satoshi because of how friendly he is with Shōya, believing he may get replaced. Satoshi Mashiba: Tomohiro becomes friends with Satoshi after he begins helping with the film Tomohiro wants to create for the amateur contest. They get along pretty well and appear to be friends, though their dynamic usually involves them being the butt of each other’s playful jokes. ![]() Yuzuru Nishimiya: Yuzuru and Tomohiro tease each other a lot, although they were only hostile with each other during their first encounter due to Yuzuru’s distrust of him and Shōya. After this event, Tomohiro often begins to visibly shake in fear whenever Naoka is present, although the hostility between the two appears to dissolve towards the end of the series. She takes the opportunity to express her disgust for him before demanding Shōya’s contact information, which he refuses to give her. ![]() He finds Naoka after one of her shifts and attempts to confess feelings to her, however her response to the misunderstanding is very vitriolic. They unofficially meet for the first time when Tomohiro joins Shōya to visit Naoka’s workplace, although neither boy realizes that Naoka is the employee they’re talking to.Īfter a mixup with Tomohiro and Shōya’s cat pouches, Tomohiro finds a confession note from Naoka that he believes is addressed to him. Naoka Ueno: Tomohiro and Naoka have a very tense relationship stemming from their second ever encounter. Shōko expresses a desire to continue working on the film, something Tomohiro embraces and helps the two establish a bond outside the influence of Shōya. When Shōya falls into a coma, Tomohiro finds Shōko in the hospital and the two confide some of their personal thoughts to each other. He understands how important she is to Shōya and recognizes that his friend may have feelings for her, though he learns how dense Shōya can be when it comes to understanding his own feelings. Shōko Nishimiya: As Tomohiro admits, he considers Shōko his friend because of her connection to Shōya. However, the two are easily able to reconcile their negative feelings and grow from their friendship. The two have a good dynamic, though they aren’t immune to disagreements, even fighting at one point. He also makes an effort to help Shōya get closer to Shōko, although he uses his help as leverage to pressure Shōya into making a film with him. Tomohiro helps Shōya meet Shōko again by defending him when Yuzuru tries to keep him away a second time. After school, Tomohiro spends a decent amount of time looking for the bike and returns it to Shōya’s house, earning Shōya's trust from that moment onward. Shōya Ishida: Tomohiro and Shōya became close friends after Shōya prevented Tomohiro’s bike from being stolen by another student by offering his mother’s bike instead. Chapter 18 - "I Don't Care in the Least".At one point, he ends up growing a mustache as a token of good luck for Shōya Ishida. Tomohiro has dark green curly hair and a chubby physique. Usually, when he isn't wearing his uniform, he is seen wearing a scarf. Tomohiro wears a yellow jumper with a white shirt underneath and a red undershirt. He is also really ambitious and persistent when it comes to his goals, in particular his desire to become a filmmaker, although this also means that he doesn’t know when to quit. Despite this, he is able to realize his shortcomings and begin to let his positive qualities such as his care for his friends define who he is. He also has a tendency to lie about various things such as the amount of friends he has, implying he feels the need to look cool or knowledgeable, becoming defensive when people see through him. Tomohiro was often rejected by others for things such as his physique and haircut, causing him to develop an underlying superiority complex due to feelings of loneliness and isolation. However, he can also be rather possessive and pushy, with frantic behavior that’s off-putting to others around him. Tomohiro is a boy with a big heart, being very supportive and loyal to the people he considers his friends. ![]()
